The staff at Impressions Dentistry wants you to be able to visit our Olympia dental office without anxiety. With this in mind, we offer sedation dentistry to make your procedure relaxing for you. Sedation dentistry allows you to be calm and comfortable during your treatment and eliminate any fears or anxiety of visiting the dentist that you may have.
Dental Anxiety is Not Uncommon
Many people feel anxiety when thinking about visiting the dentist. In fact, research shows that up to 75% of all Americans feel this way. Avoiding your dentist will only lead to declined oral health and possibly a more costly and complicated treatment needed later.
What is the Solution for Dental Anxiety?
Nitrous oxide sedation is the answer to dental anxiety and some other common issues patients have at the dentist. Those that have difficulty getting numb, have a sensitive gag relax or need to have multiple procedures done in one visit can be helped by receiving nitrous oxide sedation.
Nitrous oxide is a great solution for mild to moderate dental anxiety. If you suffer from more moderate dental fear, you may want to consider oral conscious sedation.
How Does It Work?
Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is a soothing gas that is administered with a nasal mask. This gas will reduce anxiety and discomfort felt during your treatment. The effects wear off quickly allowing you to return to your regular schedule soon after your procedure. You will be able to drive yourself home from the appointment and you will be able to return to school or work without any recovery time needed.
Dr. Suneet Bath has had training to administer oral conscious sedation for patients with more moderate dental anxiety. You will take a sedative in pill form about an hour before your appointment or treatment. The pill is completely safe and your vital signs will be monitored while you are under the sedative effects. You will become very relaxed and may have little to no memory of the procedure. You can sleep right through your treatment. The medication’s effects will linger after your treatment is complete so you will need someone to drive you home from your appointment.
